7 Calls, 47 Minutes by Matthew Randazzo V

The cops in Uvalde, Texas stood outside a locked elementary school door while children trapped inside with a murderer begged for help.

One little girl showed more courage than the over 100 cops on the scene who refused to confront a single untrained teenager.

While they were afraid “they could’ve been shot” according to Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Chris Olivarez, this small child courageously risked her life by calling 9-1-1 seven times in the vicinity of the killer during the massacre.

Seven times.

This was how “Protect and Serve” was defined for her.

At 12:03 p.m, 35 minutes (2100 seconds) have passed since the first 9-1-1 call from a teacher, and 32 minutes (1920 seconds) have passed after the first cop arrived in the school parking lot.

It is at this time that a student first risks her life to call 9-1-1. For 83 courageous seconds she whispers in the shooter’s vicinity to plead for police to rescue her and her classmates. There are as many as 19 cops already massed outside the classroom door, and there is only one teenager waiting to face them on the other side.

Nothing happened.

Count to 2820 seconds – 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi … that’s how long that child waited for the army of police just on the other side of her classroom door to save the lives of her classmates and teacher.

How long until Congress answers the call?
