October 8th, 2018 – Seattle, WA 5th Annual Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration Daybreak Star

In 2014, Seattle helped launch a movement to replace the federal holiday, Columbus Day, with Indigenous Peoples’ Day. This year, marks its 5th annual celebration.

Prior to 2014, only the city of Berkely, CA and South Dakota had celebrations in replace of Columbus Day. In 2014, Seattle and Minneapolis passed Indigenous Peoples’ Day resolutions today there are over 80 cities, states, Universities, and the Island Nation of Trinidad and Tobago with similar resolutions.

Seattle will mark its celebration with a morning rally and march capped with an evening celebration at the historic Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center.

This years theme is honoring Native Womxn.  Luana Ross and Jeri Moomaw will be honored at Daybreak Star for their important work and leadership.
