Ojibwe Warrior Society (OWS) Emerges in Response to June 27th Historic Decision on Proposed “Line 3” Pipeline Set to Cross Ojibwe Ancestral Treaty Lands.

Cass Lake, MN– On June 27th a historical decision will be made to approve or deny permits for Enbrige’s new pipeline known as Line 3. Prior to decision the “Ojibwe Warrior Society” (OWS) has emerged to defend treaty lands “by any means necessary”. The proposed route is proposed to cross through treaty lands which would destroy precious habitats, threaten pristine water supplies and desecrate tribal sacred lands. The Ojibwe Warrior Society is rising to defend lands and people, prevent drug violence, the environmental destruction, and the sexual violence that pipeline projects bring to indigenous communities.

The Ojibwe Warrior Society is comprised of members of the Leech Lake, Red Lake and Lake Superior Band of Ojibwe who are refining what was learned at Standing Rock and reviving ancestral warrior society tactics and practices to effectively stop line 3.

Statements from OWS:

“We expect them (Minnesota PUC) to make the right decision and deny the permits to this destructive project but if they approve this permit we will resist by any means necessary.”

“Pipelines bring meth, violence and death and we will no longer tolerate destructive projects on ancestral lands. We are standing to protect our waters, our women and children.”

Excerpts released by warrior society members state, “historically the Ojibwe had many warrior bands that defended lands from encroachment by white settlers, this is not Standing Rock and we will not be infiltrated and peace policed while a pipeline is forced upon us.” – Ojibwe Warrior Society
