Dec 1, 2018 - Why I March: Chase Iron Eyes ‘Re-Spiritualizing the Planet’

On January 18, 2019, Indigenous peoples from across the World will be uniting in Washington D.C. to stand together to bring awareness to the injustices affecting Indigenous men, women and children. Indigenous people from North and South America, Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean are a target of genocide.

Currently, many Indigenous people are victims of voter suppression, divided families by walls and borders, an environmental holocaust, sex and human trafficking, and police/military brutality with little or no resources and awareness of this injustice.

LRI editor Matt Remle recently spoke with Chase Iron Eye (Lakota) about the march, issues he hopes to high-light and why it is important for Indigenous peoples to show unity.

Tell us about the Indigenous Peoples March?

This March is to show force, positive force, to stand in our power, to know the power of peace, which cannot be passive. It authorizes us to stand against injustice no matter the odds.

What issues will you be high-lighting at the march?

The indigenous response to capitalism, how that colonial process has despiritualized the planet, how that colonization of the spirit & mind is destroying the planet?

Why is it important for indigenous peoples to show unity?

We all we got, the worlds looking to us for guidance, that strength is within our own suffering, our condition, our sacrifice…we are the vision, part of a resurrection of suppressed liberation.

Will you be in the streets 1/18?

Definite, bet that as the 7th gen would say!
