Jan 5, 2018 - Family of Renee Davis Files a Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Deputies
Seattle, WA – On January 3rd 2018, the family of Renee Davis filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against King County and deputies in King County Superior Court for the fatal shooting of Renee by sheriff’s deputies in 2016.
On October 21st, 2016 Renee Davis, 23 single mother of two and a citizen of the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, was shot and killed in her home on the Muckleshoot reservation by deputies of the King County Police. She was five months pregnant at the time.
Deputies responded to her home as a “welfare” check after receiving a call from her boyfriend who stated Renee was suicidal.
Upon entering the house, deputies found Davis in her bedroom. According to the police report, Davis was holding a gun in one hand and ammunition in the other. They ordered her to drop the gun. Both deputies pulled their weapons and fired at Renee, killing her. They had been in the house for one minute.

According to the Seattle Times, “the complaint filed by the sister of Renee Davis alleges deputies tampered with the crime scene and failed to provide aid to Davis, who bled to death from her wounds.
The lawsuit claims Davis was suicidal and that statements she made to her boyfriend on Oct. 21, 2016, made him concerned enough to ask a deputy to check on her.
According to the complaint, the deputies said Davis pointed a handgun at them, but the lawsuit alleges there is no evidence that occurred.”
Davis was a teachers aide in the tribe’s Head-start pre-school program and described as being a kind and gentle person.
