Sep 4, 2017 - Family of Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind Continue to Wait for Baby to be Returned

As candle light vigils were being held across the Nation in response to the heartbreaking news of the murder of Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind, the family, and father, of her stolen baby dealt with extra stress of waiting for the baby to be returned to the family.

While details continue to emerge in the on-going investigation, Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind’s baby continues to be held in protective custody by Cass County Social Services.

Ashton Matheny, Savanna’s boyfriend and father of the baby, said in a interview with the Washington Post that DNA samples had been taken to prove that the baby was his, but that the testing would take several days.

After waiting 10-days, Mathey was finally allowed a 90-minute visit with the baby.

According to the Bismarck Tribune, while the suspects told police that the child belonged to LaFontaine-Greywind, custody cannot be awarded until DNA results are received according to the state agency.

Matheny, who has been staying at a hotel in Fargo, stated, “All I’m doing now is playing the waiting game. We have to go through the courts, the whole legal system. I wish I could have brought her home already. But they have guidelines to follow.”

Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind, was 8 months pregnant when she went missing on August 19th. Her body was found 8-days later along the Red River. The baby was found in the apartment of her neighbors.
