Apr 12, 2017 - Missoula City Council Votes to Divest Funds from Wells Fargo

Missoula, MT – On April 3rd, the Missoula city council voted to divest from Wells Fargo due to their financial backing of the Dakota Access pipeline.

The resolution, proposed by council members Ruth Swaney and Heidi West, divests $2.6 million the city had invested in a money market account with Wells Fargo.

It states, “the City of Missoula finds that Wells Fargo’s investment in the Dakota Access Pipeline and recent misconduct and dishonest business practices are contrary to the City of Missoula’s fiscally prudent investment practices and recognition of Indigenous People’s rights, it is in the City’s best interest to strengthen its framework for social equity and responsibility in contracting by enacting authority and responsibilities to ensure the City conducts business with partners who are committed to and demonstrate engaging in fair and responsible business practices

Missoula joins Seattle, San Francisco, Davis, the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe and others who have divested from Wells Fargo and other financial institutions who have provided finical support in the construction of the Dakota Access pipeline.
