Feb 4, 2017 - Muckleshoot Indian Tribe Divests from Wells Fargo

February 3 2017, today the Muckleshoot Indian Tribal council voted to divest from Wells Fargo.

Muckleshoot Councilman Louie Ungaro, who introduced the resolution, stated,

“The Muckleshoot Tribal Council has just committed to divest from Wells Fargo – following the City of Seattle.  Wells Fargo is one of 17 banks that have directly invested in the Dakota Access Pipeline. It is imperative that we stand with the Water Protectors and that we make every effort to invest in socially responsible banking practices from here on out.

Wells Fargo very recently has targeted Natives, the elderly and college students in creating unauthorized and unnecessary bank accounts. This has now negatively affected the credit of millions of consumers and in some areas solely targeting tribal communities.”

The resolution was unanimously supported by the Muckleshoot Council.

The Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, located south of Seattle, comprised of descendants of the Duwamish and Upper Puyallup people who inhabited Central Puget Sound for thousands of years before non-Indian settlement.
