Honor the Earth’s 4th Annual Love Water Not Oil Tour

Today, July 18th, 2016, Honor the Earth begins its 4th Annual Love Water Not Oil tour, a spiritual journey by horseback along the proposed route of the Sandpiper and Line 3 crude oil pipeline corridor. The ride begins in the Rice Lake Wildlife Refuge, part of the Mille Lacs Reservation off Hwy 65, and continues west along the proposed pipeline route, against the current of proposed oil. The journey will end on August 1 at Lower Rice Lake on the White Earth Reservation. Local media is invited to join the tour at any point along the way.

Concerts will be held on July 22 in Pine River (Hunt Utilities Group’s Resilient Living Campus), July 28 on Madeline Island (Tom’s Burned Down Cafe), July 31 in Duluth (The Red Herring), and August 2 in Bemidji (Rail River Folk School), to celebrate Indigenous resistance to these projects and continue to raise awareness of the threats they pose to critical tribal resources protected by treaties between the Ojibwe tribes and the federal government.

After 3 years of regulatory proceedings, Enbridge has no permits for these pipelines and no clear path forward, as the State of Minnesota is just now beginning its Environmental Impact Statement. Grassroots resistance continues to build as the people of the north stand together to protect our fresh water and wild rice, and to demand a transition to clean energy.
