Oct 23, 2016 - Muckleshoot Woman Shot and Killed by Police on Muckleshoot Reservation

On October 21st, Renee Davis, a citizen of the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, was shot and killed in her home on the Muckleshoot reservation by deputies of the King County Police. She was five months pregnant.

King County deputies responded to a call of a suicidal woman who was reportedly armed. Earlier, Davis had texted someone that she was feeling suicidal. That person contacted the police.

According to King County Sheriff Sgt. Cindi West, “They [the deputies] tried repeatedly to get somebody to come to the door, nobody did. They could see the two kids running around inside the house.”

The deputies entered the home. The two deputies both fired multiple shots hitting Davis. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The two children were unharmed.

An investigation is underway as to what led to the officers shooting.

According to KOMO news, the two deputies, an 8-year veteran assigned to the Muckleshoot Reservation and a 3-year King County deputy, have been placed on paid administrative leave, while detectives investigate.

Davis was a teachers aide in the tribe’s Headstart pre school program and described as being a kind and gentle person.
