American Indian Movement of Colorado & Idle No More Denver
ANNOUNCE PROTEST FOR BRONCOS/WASHINGTON FOOTBALL GAME SUNDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2013
“REDSKINS” = RACIST, Says AIM/IDLE NO MORE CALL ON NEWS/SPORTS REPORTERS TO STOP USING THE“R-‐WORD” IN THEIR REPORTING
Calling the refusal of the Washington, DC professional football franchise to change its name and mascot from the racist “Redskins,” an insult to all indigenous peoples, Colorado AIM and Idle No More (INM) invite all people of goodwill to protest at the football game at Sports Authority Mile High Stadium on Sunday, October 27,2013. The exact time, location and tenor for the protest will be announced closer to game day.
In the meanwhile, AIM and INM call on all Colorado news and sports journalists to banish the R-‐word from their reporting, and choose instead simply to refer to “the team from Washington, DC,” without referring to the word that most American Indians consider to be a racial epithet, with its long, racist lineage in U.S. history.
