Oct 17, 2013 - Breaking: RCMP to Enforce Injunction Against Elsipogtog First Nation Anti-Frack Blockade #Globalfrackdown
Rexton, New Brunswick: The RCMP stated today that they will be enforcing a court injunction to end an anti-Fracking blockade.
The blockade, on Highway 134 near Rexton, N.B., by members of the Elsipogtog First Nation and allies was erected in late September to protest hydraulic fracturing set to take place on their lands by the company SWN Resources Canada.
Throughout the summer, SWN Resources Canada had conducted seismic tests in the region. Seismic testing is the first step in the hydraulic fracturing process.
Tensions escalated leading members of the Elsipogtog First Nation, who are concerned over the potential impacts fracking would have on the environment and water, and others to construct a blockade around the compound where SWN Resources Canada’s trucks and hydraulic fracturing equipment is stored.
The court injunction to end the blockade was issued earlier this month.
