LOS ANGELES – On Friday, March 10th, Angelenos will be marching in solidarity with the Standing Rock Defund DAPL and Standing Rock sister march in D.C. We’re calling on the Los Angeles City Council to Divest from Wells Fargo and end any association with banks that fund projects undermining vulnerable people. Wells Fargo was sued in 2012 for targeting people of color to foreclose on their homes, then continued to demonstrate unethical behavior in it’s support of the Dakota Access Pipeline abuse of Indigenous People, along with duping the American public with thousands of fake bank accounts.

“As a Native who protected my peoples’ water on the frontlines of Standing Rock,” said Courage, Oglala Lakota and Mestizo/Mexican, activist. “The frontlines shifted, when US government once again forcefully removed us from our lands because their corporations wanted to procure our resources, the frontlines are now in your backyard. In the cities, it is up to us now to stop the banks that endlessly fund these indisputably dangerous oil pipelines.”

“The success of Seattle’s and more recently, Santa Monica’s divestment initiative set off a spark of hope for many of us,” said Trinity Tran, Divest LA organizer. “We are organizing to defund and disempower institutions that are detrimental to the people and our environment.”

PARTICIPATING ORGANIZATIONS include: American Indian Movement (AIM) SoCal, Idle No More So-Cal, Divest LA, Revolution LA, Fight Climate Denial, March and Rally Los Angeles, California for Progress, Labor for Standing Rock, DefundDAPL, Climate Hawks Vote, 350.org, So Cal 350 Climate Action, Committee for Better Banks, Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment, Bernie Sanders Brigade, Long Beach 350, Berniecrats of California, Popular Democracy, South Bay 350, National Lawyers Guild, Union del Barrio, LA for Palestine, Party for Socialism and Liberation, and the ANSWER Coalition.
