April 19 2019 - “Eliminating The Borders For A New World" Indigenous Peoples Movement Conference set for Houston

From May 10th - 12th 2019, Tribal leaders, activists, change-makers and artists will be convening in Houston, TX for the first Indigenous Peoples Movement conference.

Last Real Indians recently connected with S.A. Lawrence-Welch from the IPM conference planning committee to talk about the conference, its goals and what attendees can expect to get out of the conference.

Tell us about the conference?

The Indigenous Peoples Movement Conference will be taking place in Houston, Texas from May 10th-12th 2019 at the Talento Bilingue De Houston.

The weekend will feature workshops, a spectacular concert on Friday night, and a cultural gala Saturday night with a very special guest performance! Sunday there will be a morning gathering and local guided tours available (secure your spot when booking your weekend tickets).

Speakers are being announced over the next three weeks, and so far include:

Who is organizing the conference?
The Indigenous Peoples Movement Coalition is putting on the conference with help from volunteers and Houston locals. Keeping fires burning after the historic Indigenous Peoples March on D.C. this past January.

What is the goal of the conference?
The goal of the conference is to help facilitate the much needed dialogue for creating viable solutions to the issues directly affecting our respective nations and peoples both locally and internationally. 

What can participants expect to get out of the conference?
A weekend of information and tangible ideas to implement back in their communities - from the grassroots level to government. The conference is a celebration of conversation, culture and community.

What are you looking forward to?
We [The Indigenous Peoples Movement] are looking forward to having a gathering of community and the elevation of our indigenous voices. The building up of our people, by our people.
